Ankita was waiting in the service line adjacent to the main road for her turn. Her car's air conditioning had been malfunctioning since the previous day, prompting her to leave work early to arrange for repairs. She had managed to cope with the heat in the morning but decided it was necessary to address the issue promptly.
After a 20-minute wait, she approached the owner of the A/C shop and expressed her urgency, asking him to prioritize her car. The owner, Sardar Ji, reassured her to remain patience, stating that he would attend to her vehicle shortly. Ankita explained that she had left work early to handle this situation and had additional office responsibilities to manage, highlighting the pressure, she was under and her need to leave on time.
Sardar Ji advised, “Madam, try not to stress too much; everything managed by Waheguru. As you prepare for sleep, take a moment to pray, thanking Waheguru for the beautiful day you experienced. If you have done something good, ask for another chance tomorrow. It is Waheguru's will whether we receive another day. If you wake up, express gratitude for the new day and commit to doing good work, hoping for another opportunity the following day. I apologize if it seems like I’m offering unwanted GYAN.”
Ankita responded by saying that there was no issue on her end and that the comments made were entirely appropriate. She expressed her appreciation for the input and confirmed her willingness to wait for assistance, but also requested to check how soon they could assist her.
Ankita stood in line, her gaze drifting to three large government dustbins situated in the corner to her left. There, a young rag picker, likely between 18 or 20 years old, was meticulously sorting through the refuse, pulling out empty bottles and plastic items from the grimy bins. Her tattered clothing, patched in several places, spoke of her difficult circumstances. As she worked, another colleague, similarly dressed, approached from the opposite direction. The two women exchanged a few words and laugh loudly.
Ankita was taken aback and quickly exited her car, approaching the two girls. She inquired, "Excuse me, may I ask you a question if you don't mind?" One of the girls responded hesitantly, "Yes, madam."
Ankita inquired, “How this is possible for you guys to maintain the joy despite facing significant hardships and poverty?” She expressed her confusion over how anyone could find happiness while navigating a life filled with struggles.
The next girl responded, emphasizing that even those living in poverty, experience emotions, hold dreams, and deserve respect just like anyone else. They may lack financial resources, but they possess everything else that truly matters, including the ability to laugh. This insight brought a smile to Ankita's face as well.
Sadar ji called her, prompting her to head to her car. After finishing her tasks, she made her way home.
Ankita had established a successful business, bolstered by a strong financial background. Her father founded the company when she was just five years old, sparking her interest in the business from a young age. As an only child, she had full access to the financial resources and knowledge necessary to thrive. With her father now stepping back from daily responsibilities, Ankita took charge of all operations, effectively managing the tasks required to ensure the business continued to flourish.
Akita had everything she needed from a young age, with no pressure from basic life necessities. Her mother, a kind and devoted housewife, provided a nurturing environment. Despite these comforts, Akita often felt a deep sense of sadness.
She settled into her favorite cane chair, a steaming cup of coffee in hand, lost in thoughts about the girls and Sardar Ji. The memories of that day lingered in her mind, refusing to fade. Just then, her father entered the room and noticed her serious demeanor. "Ankita, you seem deep in thought. Is something bothering you?" he inquired.
She has often talked with her father about her ongoing anxiety regarding her business and career. In response, her father consistently advised her to focus on the present moment.
She recounted her experience that day with her parents regarding the Sadar ji and the girls. She expressed her past frustrations about life, despite having everything she could want. However, she noted that some individuals have a remarkable ability to embrace their destinies. The sound of laughter continues to echo in my mind and will stay with me for a lifetime.
